- Completed 500th commercial laser scanning project, remaining the world’s most experienced laser scanning company.
- Quantapoint and NGRAIN sign an alliance to use NGRAIN’s technology to provide 3D visualization capabilities in Quantapoint PRISM 3D™.
2003
- Completed 400th commercial laser scanning project.
2002
- Released SceneModeler Mark V laser scanning technology
2001
- Released PRISM, the first software for displaying and extracting dimension information from laser scan data. Applied for patent.
- Created highly accurate digital images and measurements of tombs in the Valley of Kings in Egypt.
- Received financing from Mellon Ventures to support further expansion.
- Completed 100th commercial laser scanning project.
2000
- Awarded first patent for 360° phase-based laser scanning.
- First process industry laser scanning project successfully completed (GE Plastics).
1999
- Company name changed to Quantapoint to reflect new business focus.
- First architectural laser scanning project successfully completed (Museum of Modern Art).
- Pioneered development of laser scanning data registration (integration of individual laser scans into a single network).
1998
- Discover magazine innovation award finalist for the DANTE project and continuing advancements in robotics.
- Developed automated ATV’s (all-terrain vehicles) for U.S. military and Japanese construction company usage.
- Developed first color 360° phase-based laser scanner.
- Shifted business focus to providing a total laser scanning solution, which is a core company strength.
1997
- Named to Pittsburgh Technology 50 list for technological innovation.
- Began research into extracting 3D information from pictures and video, to enable accurate model creation.
- Developed first 360° phase-based laser scanner, named SceneModeler™, continuing innovation in range finding technology. Applied for and received patent on 360° laser scanning.
1996
- Ultrafast laser light stripe range sensor developed for virtual reality applications. Enabled first applications for real-time motion sensing.
- Laser pulse-based range finder developed for obstacle detection.
1995
- Laser “light stripe” range finder built to support robotic welding.
1994
- Second-generation GRF developed and shipped to 4 continents. Primarily used for medical imaging.
1993
- VME-based video processing products developed and shipped.
- Created first affordable SUN workstation RGB (red-green-blue) digitizer (v300).
1992
- Created advanced “walker” robot for the NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) DANTE project.
- Created first commercially available gray-scale range finder (GRF), beginning the company’s long history in advanced range finding.
1991
- Company founded as K2T, a technology company to commercialize robotics.
