On March 22nd a major oil spill occurred that closed the Houston Ship Channel, preventing over 60 vessels, including three cruise ships, from transiting between the Gulf of Mexico and Galveston Bay.
The collision was between a 585 – foot bulk carrier and a barge containing 924,000 gallons of marine fuel oil. The damaged barge, containing some fuel oil sat partially submerged in the Houston Ship Channel for several days.
Quantapoint has been engaged to digitize the damaged areas of both the carrier and the barge. This digital data will be used to assist in the assessment of the circumstances surrounding the collision and the ensuing damages.
