Shell Oil Ultra-Low Sulfur = Diesel=20 Project - A Case=20 Study

Shell=20 Oil Company modified several of its US=20 refineries to comply with Low Sulfur = Diesel=20 requirements.  This involved = significant=20 modifications to several operating units = at five=20 refineries located in Washington, Texas = and=20 Louisiana.  The goal was to select = a work=20 process that provided a highly accurate = and=20 detailed 3D model in a fraction of the = time=20 required by traditional surveying=20 techniques.  It was further = required that=20 3D laser scanning would generate a model = that=20 would not require a costly and = time-consuming=20 re-modeling effort.

Quantapoint = performed laser scanning at = five=20 refineries, eight operating units = total. =20 The scope of work included Hydrotreater = Units,=20 Gas Oil Hydrotreater Units, Diesel = Hydrotreater=20 Units, Piperacks, and OSBL Tie = Points. =20 Over 1,000 laser scanned images and = completed=20 documentation of the facility were = completed in=20 a fraction of the time required by = traditional=20 surveying methods.  3D models were = issued=20 within one week after completion of = fieldwork,=20 enabled detailed engineering design to = be=20 executed in India.
