Broad Street Presbyterian Church Project Completed
Originally constructed in 1887, Broad Street Presbyterian Church is located on the eastern edge of downtown Columbus, Ohio. Over a nearly 100 year period, this Romanesque church underwent major additions and renovations.
Alterations include an early renovation that radically transformed some beautiful elements of the chapel. The horseshoe balcony floor area of the church was filled, the original arched wooden beam ceilings were concealed with a lowered plaster ceiling, and the chapel's stained glass clerestory windows were hidden as well.
Recently, a project was begun to restore and enlarge the church. The master plan included adding a 16,000 square foot addition to the existing 66,000 square foot facility. After the many changes in years prior, no accurate documentation of the church existed. Also complicating matters for the project architects, the church contained multiple floor levels, a skew in the floor plan, many curved, and difficult to document areas. Additionally, the original architectural plans were missing.
Rogers Krajnak Architects, Inc., was able to reconstruct the "hidden space" using Quantapoint's scanning and documenting technology. Quantapoint was able to capture and document the glass and arched beams which still existed above the installed dropped ceiling. Importantly, the information and images captured by Quantapoint provided the client with the ability to imagine how the space once looked, and gave them a vision of what it would be again following the scheduled restoration work.
"The client also saw great value in having an electronic format of the documentation for their facilities [drawings and QViews], not only to provide accurate documents for master planning, but also to serve as a record for insurance claims should any arise." Says Peter Krajnak, Principal.

Quantapoint is an existing condition documentation service company that has developed a process for quickly, inexpensively, and precisely measuring the "existing condition" dimensions of the interior or exterior of buildings, complex manufacturing plants, and other structures. The process employs patented hardware that quickly captures the 3D data of its surroundings, and software that rapidly converts the 3D data to 2D drawings and 3D models in AutoCAD or other standard file formats.
