PRISM 3D - Put Reality on Your Desktop (Laser Scan Data)
PRISM 3D provides access to a photo-realistic and high-definition Digitized Facility™ on team member desktops for virtual site visits to extract measurements and to access more complete information for design, reducing remodeling time, field trips and design time.
Put Reality on Your Desktop using PRISM 3D
![]()
PRISM 3D™ - winner of an R&D Magazine award for innovation - puts reality on your desktop by enabling facilities digitized using laser scanning to be accessed as photo-realistic and panoramic Laser Images™ or detailed and high-definition Laser Models™. By accessing the Digitized Facility on the desktop using PRISM 3D, Quantapoint clients have been able to decrease field trips by 90%, remodeling time by 50% and design time by 50%.
Photo-realistic Laser Images for Virtual Site Visits
![]()
Laser Images are photo-realistic, panoramic images of laser scans from individual laser scanner locations (”scanner-centric”). Because Laser Images are 360-degree images, they may be panned and zoomed like virtual reality programs to view the surrounding area.
Detailed Laser Models for More Complete Designs
![]()
Laser Models integrate laser scan data to provide detailed, high-definition solid “models” of a Digitized Facility. Laser Models are 3D, visually clear and include fine details, unlike “point clouds” whose sparse measurements make it difficult to visualize or understand the facility and may not include fine details. Laser Models are relatively small and do not require a “point server”, so they may be loaded, rotated, and zoomed as needed to view a specific area or an entire facility.
Integrate the Digitized Facility and 3D CAD
The CAD Conversion Option for PRISM 3D enables 3D CAD models from various formats (such as AutoCAD, Catia, MicroStation and PDS) to be imported into PRISM 3D to view with and clash against one another and Laser Models. This enables multiple CAD packages to be effectively used during design.
Powerful Capabilities to Decrease Field Trips and Design Time
PRISM 3D capabilities for accessing the Digitized Facility on the desktop include
- Point, distance and piping measurements
- Clip and slice to remove obstructions
- Tag points to share specific locations
- Graphical view of laser scan locations
- Links to facility information from Laser Models
- Demolition to hide Laser Models and clashes
Typical Benefits from using PRISM 3D
By using PRISM 3D (PDF) to access the Digitized Facility on the desktop, Quantapoint clients have typically been able to
- Reduce field trips by 90% - Virtual site visits instead of trips
- Reduce remodeling time by 50% - Use the Digitized Facility instead of remodeling or as a basis to remodel
- Decrease design time by 50% - Easier access to information
- Cut rework from design clashes by 65% - Correct clashes between the Digitized Facility and the new design
